The publisher house, Real Travel AE, presented recently in Central Athens, a very special volume “Why I love Greece”.
Τhis volume has been written by fifteen of the top foreign correspondents living and working in Greece. They reveal in their various ways why they have come to love Greece, and which particular part of Greece has made an inordinate impression on each and among these 15 descriptions is also the island of Leros.
The Italian journalist Furio Morroni describes his impressions of Leros which he titles INSPIRING ARCHITECTURE, as follows: “Whoever reaches Lakki, as I did, by boat, with the meltemi (strong north wind common in the Aegean in summer) in their sails, it feels like coming to shore in an abandoned Fellini film-set; Amarcord to be precise. Dusty and a bit passé perhaps, but wonderful nonetheless.”
Many years ago, in a letter to his beloved back home, an Italian soldier stationed in the Greek island of Leros wrote that he was in L’ eros, or love.
Whether it is true or invented, this story is typical of the sensation visitors – and not only Italian visitors – risk experiencing on this pocket of land in the Dodecanese; you either become indifferent or you fall in love.
FURIO MORRONI, born in Rom, is working as the Athens correspondent of ANSA, the Italian News Agency since the end of 2004.
The event was attended by the Undersecretary of Foreign Affaire, Mr. P.Doukas, which said in his short statement: “this wonderful book will play a major role in promoting Greece abroad”.
Representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Journalists involved in the field of Tourism as well as many personalities enjoyed the well organized event.
Most of the Mayors or their representatives from the regions, described in the book, were present, and awarded with different tokens, the journalists for their outstanding work.
The Municipality of Leros was presented by Mr. Christos E. Kokkonis, the Director of the Municipal Committee of Tourism.
