MUNICIPALITY OF LEROS
MUNICIPAL COMMITTEE OF TOURISM
During this weekend, 20th – 21st October 2007, the 21st Aegean Track and Field Contest took place in the new, ultramodern stadium at the island of Leros. The event was organized by the Ministry of Mercantile Marine, Aegean & Island Policy, the SEGAS (Union of Greek Gymnastic & Athletics Club) and the Municipality of Leros.
More than 500 athletes from all the Aegean Islands were gathered together to compete with enthusiasm in the above mentioned contest.
The stadium (also used as football field) and the closed gymnasium, which will be inaugurated in a few weeks, are a real asset for Leros and a significant step towards a new particular form of quality tourism, the Athletic Tourism. These new installations will give us the possibility to promote the island worldwide also in the field of sport events.
The Municipal Committee of Tourism thanks the Mayor of Leros, Mr. T. Kottakis and the former Minister of Aegean & Island Policy Mr. A. Pavlidis for their initiative thinking.
We want to thank also DONA and all the people involved for an excellent organized contest.
